Grimas Bald Cap is a transparent, elastic plastic bald cap for single use, suitable for film, TV, and theater. The Bald Cap is available in one size and is sold per piece.
Method
First, degrease and clean the skin you will be working on with Grimas Cleansing Lotion. Dry the skin afterwards with a tissue.
Place both hands in fists inside the Bald Cap and stretch it slightly so you can inspect it. Stand behind the person and ask them to hold their thumbs vertically with the nails against the forehead so that the Bald Cap can be hooked over them from front to back. Ensure that the point at the front is properly centered and that there is enough adhesive space below the hairline.
Shape the Bald Cap so that it sits smooth and tight, covers the head well, and there are no wrinkles.
First application phase
Fold back the front edge and then apply an adhesive strip of approximately 2 cm just below the hairline using Grimas Mastix Extra. For a natural effect, follow any forehead wrinkles. Let the adhesive strip run as far as the temples. Fold the edge back onto the forehead and press lightly to distribute the glue. Then, fold the edge back again. Let it dry for about 15 seconds and then bring it back onto the forehead: ensure the Bald Cap fits tightly against the head without any wrinkles.
Exposing the ears
Mark the ears. When finishing the edges with acetone, you will immediately remove the markings made with the Make-up Pencil. When you are going to trim the Bald Cap to shape, it must be pulled taut. To ensure the Bald Cap does not tear due to the tension and cutting, use acetone to melt a hole in the Bald Cap at the point towards which you are cutting.
Proceed as follows: Pull the Bald Cap diagonally downwards until it is taut. Dip a cotton swab into acetone (do not work with it too wet) and melt a hole in the Bald Cap at exactly the right spot: 2 mm below the point where the top of the ear cartilage emerges from the head.
Tip: you can optionally melt multiple holes along the line to make cutting easier.
Now carefully cut vertically from the bottom edge towards the hole. Repeat for the other side. Remove the ears from underneath the Bald Cap.
Cut the Bald Cap to shape in the same way along the sideburns, leaving enough space to glue. You can always touch up the edge later with acetone.
Second application phase
Have the model wearing the Bald Cap sit up straight. Now create an adhesive strip of approximately 2 cm along the sideburns. Make sure this adhesive strip connects perfectly to the first adhesive strip along the forehead. There should be no gap. Work according to the same principle: fold back, apply glue, bring the side edge back, press lightly, and fold back again. Let it dry for about 15 seconds and then bring it back along the sideburns.
Now move to the back of the head. To ensure the Bald Cap does not tear, melt a hole in the Bald Cap with acetone at the point towards which you are cutting. Fold the Bald Cap back. Apply an adhesive strip of approximately 2 cm along the hairline from the neck to about halfway behind the ears. Pull the Bald Cap over the back of the head with some tension, pulling both sides forward. This ensures it fits well and is taut. Open it up again briefly, let it dry for 15 seconds, and then close the Bald Cap permanently.
Finishing the edges
Note: finish the edges using cotton swabs with acetone. You will need 15 to 20 cotton swabs for this, as the acetone will dissolve the plastic stem. Do not dip a used cotton swab into the acetone again.
Take a cotton swab with acetone and make a hole in the middle of the adhesive strip on the forehead. Cut vertically towards the hole. You now start working from this hole with acetone to create a nice transition from the Bald Cap to the skin. Proceed as follows: rub a cotton swab dipped in acetone horizontally a few times over the middle of the adhesive strip and then melt it downwards in a vertical motion.
Note: always work in small sections at a time and keep working in the middle of the adhesive strip so that you follow the shape of the adhesive strip. Also, make a hole in the middle of the adhesive strip at the back, cut towards it, and proceed in the same way from the back of the head towards the back of the ears.
Color the Bald Cap with Grimas Camouflage Make-up Pure or with the bright colors of Crème Make-up Pure.
Working from the spatula or the stick, use a dry, clean Make-up Sponge and apply the Camouflage Make-up Pure by dabbing. Work from the center of the Bald Cap towards the edges. Optionally, blend into the face make-up.
Powder with Grimas Transparent Powder, Fixing Powder, Make-up Powder, or Colour Powder to mattify/set the make-up.
Removing the Bald Cap
Loosen the adhesive strip with a cotton swab soaked in Grimas Mastix Remover. Remove the adhesive and make-up residue with Mastix Remover. Massage the skin with Grimas Multi Remover or Cleansing Cream, and wipe off with a tissue. Cleanse the skin afterwards with Grimas Cleansing Lotion.
